- Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi returned to action for Turkish giants Besiktas in their emphatic victory over Kayserispor tonight in the Turkish Super League
The 27-year-old had picked up an injury during Nigeria’s [1-1] draw with South Africa in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers a few weeks ago, sparking concerns of a lengthy layoff. However, he has now fully recovered and slotted back into the side.
Ndidi missed just two matches on the sidelines, against Basaksehir and Goztepe; with Besiktas losing one and winning the other. His comeback proved timely, as he helped his side secure all three points.
The Nigerian midfielder started the game and featured for 66 minutes, recording 52 touches, four interceptions, three clearances, and three tackles, while not being dribbled past even once.
He also won the most duels in the game(7), and made eight recoveries.
This marks an important step in Ndidi’s season as he looks to build match sharpness and fitness ahead of a busy campaign for both club and country.
Speaking after the game, Ndidi said;
It was a good match. We scored 4 goals and didn’t concede any. I have to say it was a really good game. We are very happy. We want to do the same in the next match.”
When asked on why he didn't play for the full duration, here's what he had to say;
“It was a precautionary change. I just came back from injury. Instead of playing the full 90 minutes, it was more of a precautionary situation. We’ll have another match in 5 days, that’s all there is to it.”
