- The Super Eagles of Nigeria are bracing for a make-or-break September as they gear up for their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying double-header against Rwanda and South Africa.
- They face Rwanda on September 6, and South Africa on September 9
Nigeria currently sit fourth in Group C with seven points, trailing leaders South Africa by six, and two behind both Rwanda and Benin Republic. With qualification hopes hanging in the balance, newly appointed head coach Eric Chelle has unveiled a strong final squad, balancing experience with youthful talent.
There were some key developments in the squad list. Stanley Nwabali, who was recently withdrawn in Chippa United’s clash against Richards Bay, makes the cut after his injury was deemed minor. However, despite being named in the provisional squad, young goalkeeper Ebenezer Harcourt misses out on a final place.
Despite already making a return from a long term injury, Nice striker Terem Moffi also sees his name withdrawn, alongside Victor Boniface, Akor Adams and Sadiq Umar.
Eric Chelle's squad also sees the return of Benjamin Frederick and Felix Agu, on the back of impressive debuts in May, at the Unity Cup in London, England.
