Osimhen stars as Super Eagles run riot over Sao Tome & Principe

In their second Group A encounter of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers, the Super Eagles ran riot over a feeble Sao Tome and Principe team, winning by ten unanswered goals.

The result of the game now makes it Nigeria’s biggest ever football victory, and it is the second time the country has scored ten goals in a game, following a 10-1 win over Dahomey (modern day Benin Republic) on November 28, 1959.

Victor Osimhen was a threat all through the game as he scored four goals and provided two assists.

Terem Moffi bagged a brace, as he opened his Super Eagles goalscoring account. Ademola Lookman also scored his first goal for the Super Eagles.

Head coach, Jose Peseiro made four changes for the game, starting Ademola Lookman, Zaidu Sanusi, Oghenekaro Etebo, and Terem Moffi.

Simon scored once and assisted once, while wearing the captain’s armband following the injury to William Troost-Ekong in the game against Sierra Leone in Abuja on Thursday.

Late in the game, Emmanuel Dennis scored from the spot after being brought down in the penalty box.

The win propelled the Eagles to the top of Group A, and they will be back in action in the qualifiers in September when they play Guinea-Bissau for their third match.

Victor Osimhen and Alex Iwobi strike in Super Eagles’ win over Sierra Leone

Alex Iwobi and Victor Osimhen scored after Jonathan Morsay’s early opener for the Leone Stars, tying the hosts for first place in Group A with Guinea-Bissau, who thrashed Sao Tome & Principe 5-1.

Nigeria came from a goal down to overcome Sierra Leone, 2-1 in their first qualifying match for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, on Thursday evening at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

Alex Iwobi and Victor Osimhen scored for the Super Eagles after Jonathan Morsay’s early opener for the Leone Stars. The win takes Nigeria to joint-top in Group A with Guinea-Bissau, who thrashed Sao Tome & Principe 5-1.

Sierra Leone seemed to adjust more swiftly to the rough playing surface, as striker Mohamed Buya Turay tried to open the scoring in the third minute, with Francis Uzoho tipping his effort over the crossbar.

The Super Eagles had a few of chances through Victor Osimhen, and it looked like they’d take control of the game shortly, but they were startled when the Leone Stars took the lead in the 11th minute.

Musa Kamara whipped in a superb cross from the left flank and Jonathan Morsay rushed himself at the ball and scored with a diving header to put the visitors up 1-0.

Just a few minutes later, Sierra Leone broke through Nigeria’s defense on a counter-attack, and Musa Kamara hit a low effort that Uzoho tipped onto the post.

In the 16th minute, Alex Iwobi was put into space on the edge of the box after Simon made a well-weighted ball, and blasted a shot into the bottom corner of the net.

After exchanging half-chances, Nigeria took the lead for the first time in the 41st minute when Ola Aina’s cross found Simon, who added a second assist with a downward header across the six-yard box that was buried home by Osimhen to make it 2-1.

The Super Eagles tweaked their set up at the start of the second half, with Sadiq Umar being replaced by Peter Etebo.

Nigeria had half chances to kill off the game in the secondhalf, but one that was so clear was the miss by Samuel Chukwueze in the 54th minute.

William Troost-Ekong (groin) and Osimhen (hamstring) both suffered injuries at the tale end of the game and were replaced by Kenneth Omeruo and Terem Moffi.

Nigeria’s next game is away at Sao Tome & Principe, while Sierra Leone will host Guinea-Bissau.

PSG line up Victor Osimhen as a potential replacement for Kylian Mbappe

If Kylian Mbappe departs the Parc des Princes, ten-time Ligue 1 champions PSG could jump in and sign Super Eagles talisman, Victor Osimhen.

The French prodigee could leave Paris this summer, and a Nigerian striker could replace him.

If Kylian Mbappe departs the Parc des Princes, ten-time Ligue 1 champions PSG could jump in and sign Super Eagles talisman, Victor Osimhen.

Since leaving Monaco four years ago, Mbappe has been a bright spot for the Parisians. In 214 games, the 23-year-old attacker has 167 goals and 84 assists.

The Frenchman, though, may be on his way out of Parc des Princes this summer after refusing to extend his contract, which runs out at the conclusion of the season.

Kylian Mbappe #7 of Paris Saint-Germain looks on during the Ligue 1 Uber Eats match between RC Strasbourg and Paris Saint Germain at Stade de la Meinau on April 29, 2022 in Strasbourg, France.

Real Madrid has been mentioned as a possible destination, although nothing has been confirmed.

Regardless, the Parisians risk losing their star player, and they’ll be on the lookout for more attacking dynamite.

PSG are eyeing 23-year-old Osimhen to replace Mbappe, according to Get French Football News.

Since joining Napoli from Lille two years ago, Osimhen has been fantastic. The Nigerian forward is having the best season of his career. Osimhen has proven his worth to Napoli by scoring 17 goals and assisting six times in 29 games.

The Partenopeans are demanding €100 million for Victor, but the Paris money bags should be able to afford it because they have consistently pushed their weight in the transfer market.

Napoli crown Victor Osimhen as Player of the Month for March

Victor Osimhen has been named the Napoli player of the month for March, adding another feather to his cap.

In March, the Nigerian talisman performed admirably for the Partenopeans, and he has been rewarded for his exploits.

The Super Eagles attacker was sensational for the Partenopeans, scoring four goals.

For the 23-year-old, this season has been rewarding, as he has already earned two Serie A accolades. Last September, he was named Serie A player of the month, and he also won the EA Sports Serie A player the month for March.

In a post on Napoli’s social media account, Osimhen was named player of the month for the month of March.

With five games remaining, the Partenopeans are presently third in Serie A, four points behind leaders AC Milan.

Napoli still has a chance to win Serie A, but it will be a difficult task. Nonetheless, Osimhen will play a key part if they are to end their 32-year Scudetto wait.

Victor Osimhen’s name has been on everyone’s lips in recent weeks, as the striker has been linked with a move to the Premier League. No less than three teams in the country are reported interested in his services, but luring him away from Napoli in the summer would be a difficult feat.

The Serie A heavyweights are expected to demand more than £100 million for the 23-year old, in order to deter some of the world’s best teams. The Premier League clubs, on the other hand, are eager to keep trying to find a way out.

Arsenal and Manchester United are among the clubs interested in signing the Super Eagles striker.

The Red Devils regard Osimhen as a possible summer replacement for Cristiano Rolando and may approach him when the window opens.

Arsenal, on the other hand, are set to intensify their pursuit of the Nigerian striker after commencing negotiations with him.

According to reports, Osimhen is flattered by their offers, but isn’t persuaded that joining the Emirates is the appropriate decision for him at this point in his career.

Nonetheless, the Gunners are expected to follow through on their first discussions and investigate the costs of signing the Nigerian striker.

Osimhen could possibly choose to stay at Napoli next season and compete in the UEFA Champions League. He has a long career ahead of him at 23, and is not in a hurry to make a decision.
