Eze Eberechi’s dilemma: Soar with the Eagles or Hunt with the Lions?

Premier League side, Crystal Palace, recently announced the signing of England-born Nigerian playmaker, Eberechi Eze from Queens Park Rangers. He signed a five-year deal with the club, for a transfer fee reported to be about £17 million.

Born in South London to Nigerian parents, Eze’s journey to professional football didn’t begin very brightly.. The 22-year old has experienced immense growth and development since joining QPR in 2016. Eze has represented England 9 times at youth levels, however he remains eligible to represent the Nigeria through his parents.

Eze, regarded more as a forward, can also be deployed in the playmaking role and will be a welcome addition to the Super Eagles squad. Nigeria has lacked a proper ‘number 10’ since the retirement of Jay Jay Okocha, with Alex Iwobi currently featuring in that role.
The NFF has not hidden its desire to get Eze into the Nigerian setup, meeting with him on multiple occasions.

Heading into a new phase of his career with Crystal Palace, is it finally be time for Eze to make a decision on where his allegiance lies ?

To be or not to be ? Will the new Eagle fly higher to become a Super Eagle ? Or will he just crave to dine with the Lions? Time will tell!

ON THIS DAY: In 2019, Wilfred Ndidi scores for Leicester City vs Chelsea

On this day in 2019, Super Eagles midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi, was on target for Leicester City in their [1-1] English Premier League draw against Chelsea.
Wilfred made an error to allow Mason Mount open the scoring early in the first half, before connecting in the 67th min with a fine header from James Maddison’s corner kick to score the equalizer.

Meet one of the Premier League’s dirtiest footballers, who played with Jay-Jay Okocha

The Premier League has produced some of the most elegant and graceful players to ever grace the game, names like Jay-Jay Okocha, Cristiano Ronaldo and Eden Hazard come to mind. The League has also produced some of the dirtiest, scrappiest, and roughest footballers who are uncompromising when it comes to getting the ball.

The player being profiled is a former teammate of the aforementioned Okocha and most definitely epitomises the phrase ‘at all costs’, with his bullish style of play leading him to bagging more than a basket-full of cautions in his career. This player is not a ‘no nonsense’ defender or a battle-hardened midfielder, but a Centre Forward. The man is none other than Bolton Wanderers Legend, Kevin Davies.

The one-time England International was a brutish target-man, who frequently committed fouls by elbowing opposition defenders and lunging into mistimed tackles, often leading to bookings on each occasion. In summer 2003, he joined Bolton having been released by Southampton. In a season where he rediscovered his best form, he scored ten times and started every league match.

In his Bolton career, Davies committed over 1,000 fouls, more than any other Premier League player in the competition’s history to date. On 11 February 2012, he became the joint holder of the record for most yellow cards in Premier League history, alongside former Leeds United star, Lee Bowyer; not the kind of record you would associate with an experienced striker. To put his record into context, Davies had more bookings (99) than Premier League goals (88).

Davies hung up his boots in 2015, after a brief spell at Preston North End in the English 3rd tier after 22 years in the professional game and most older fans of the English Premier League will surely remember the bulky Englishman for his aggressive style of play.

Which other Premier League old boys do you remember? Let me know in the comments.
