Jamilu Collins to undergo medicals at Cardiff City

Cardiff City are set to announce the signing of Nigeria international, Jamilu Collins, from SC Paderborn on a free transfer.

English EFL Championship club, Cardiff City are set to announce the signing of Nigeria international, Jamilu Collins, from SC Paderborn on a free transfer.

Collins will become the club’s fourth signing pending the outcome of his medical (May 19th), WalesOnline reports.

Following the expiration of his contract with Bundesliga 2 club SC Paderborn, where he spent the previous five seasons, the 27-year-old is expected to join on a free transfer.

The player’s versatility is a significant positive, as he can play center-back, wing-back, and on the left side of midfield, although his favorite position is left-back.

Cardiff desperately need to strengthen this position. The Bluebirds are resigned to the idea that former loanee Ryan Giles has his sights set on a Premier League loan next season, with Joel Bagan the only recognized senior left-back.

Collins, on the other hand, was spotted by Cardiff’s recruitment squad earlier this year and has been monitored by the club ever since. He played 90 minutes for Nigeria in their 2-0 win over Guinea-Bissau at this year’s Africa Cup of Nations, and Cardiff were there to see.

The Bluebirds also sought references on the player from contacts in this country. Former Cardiff defender Semi Ajayi, who is now at West Brom and was Collins’ international teammate, is said to be one of those who gave a favourable recommendation.

Cardiff were to cast their net further afield this summer, according to WalesOnline, in the hopes of finding bargains on the European market. Collins is expected to be just that, according to club insiders.

He spent five seasons with Croatian club Rijeka before joining Paderborn, where he shone like a million stars.

Collins has appeared for the Super Eagles in 25 games.

An official announcement is expected in the next 48 hours.

Aston Villa join Crystal Palace and Brentford in race for Joe Aribo

It’s worth mentioning that Aribo’s contract with Rangers expires on July 1, 2022, and he has expressed no desire in extending it, which has piqued the interest of Premier League clubs.

Aston Villa is the latest Premier League club to reportedly express interest in signing Rangers’ Joe Aribo during the summer transfer window.

It’s worth mentioning that Aribo’s contract with Rangers expires on July 1, 2023, and he has expressed no desire in extending it, which has piqued the interest of Premier League clubs.

According to the Sun, Aston Villa have joined the hunt for Aribo, who previously worked with current Lions manager Steven Gerrard at Rangers.

Brentford and Crystal Palace, among others, have taken notice of the versatile midfielder’s performances for the Light Blues this season.

Instead of letting the 25-year-old walk away for free at the end of next season, the Gers may cash in on him this summer.

If Aribo’s move to Aston Villa goes through, he may be the ideal midfield partner for Philippe Coutinho, who just signed a permanent deal.

The Nigerian has shown his versatility by putting in strong performances as a box-to-box midfielder, right winger, and false nine.

Okocha and Martins make Frank Onyeka’s Ultimate African PL Team

Onyeka’s team included Nigeria icons Obafemi Martins (ex-Newcastle United striker) and Jay-Jay Okocha (Bolton Wanderers hero)

Premier League Uncut asked Brentford midfielder Frank Onyeka to create his ultimate squad based on the traits of African players who have played in the English Premier League in the past and present.

Onyeka’s team included Nigeria icons Obafemi Martins (ex-Newcastle United striker) and Jay-Jay Okocha (Bolton Wanderers hero), as well as African players who had played for Manchester City, Chelsea, and Arsenal.

Onyeka chose Martins for quickness and former Manchester City player Yaya Toure over Algerian star Riyad Mahrez for passing.

“Mahrez can pass, Yaya Toure also can pass, I think I will go with Yaya, ” the Nigerian said.

“Yaya is fast, he is a box-to-box midfielder, can dribble and shoot, all-round midfielder. I want to add to that game as well.”

For dribbling, shooting, and physicality, he chose Okocha, Martins, and Chelsea great Didier Drogba, respectively.

Onyeka commented on Drogba. : “He scores so many goals, strong, defender’s nightmare.”

The Super Eagles midfielder joined the Bees for a then-club-record cost of 10 million euros last summer and made 20 Premier League games before his injury.

After his outstanding performance against PSV on Sunday, Cyriel Dessers has now scored 100 official career goals.

Dessers scored in the 2-2 draw to truncate PSV’s title hopes and keep his strong form going at De Kuip.

It was his 18th goal of the season in all competitions, a major accomplishment given how he began the season.

The Nigerians commented on how great the goal is, and how special De Kuip is for scoring a century of goals.

No better place to score your 100th official goal than in an exploding cockpit,” he tweeted.

Dessers has developed into a fan favorite at Feyenoord and is the subject of a €4 million transfer saga between his parent club KRC Genk and Feyenoord.

While he is surplus to the Belgian club’s requirements, he is coveted by Rotterdammers fans, who have even put up a crowdsourcing campaign to gain his permanent acquisition.

Cyriel Dessers has ten goals in the inaugural UEFA Europa Conference League where he’s one goal better than AS Roma’s Tammy Abraham.

The one cap Super Eagles now joins Victor Ikpeba, Nwankwo Kanu, Ikechukwu Uche, Obafemi Martins, Odion Ighalo, John Utaka and Rasheed Yekini on the list of Nigerians to have scored atleast 100 career goals.
