Brendan Rodgers charges Kelechi Iheanacho to be more lethal in front of goal
Brendan Rodgers, the manager of Leicester City, has challenged striker Kelechi Iheanacho to be more ruthless in front of goal, if he wants to improve his goal-scoring record at the club.
In recent weeks, the Nigerian striker has been given increased playing time due to mixed results and the absence of Jamie Vardy.
Iheanacho was the club’s top scorer last season, with 19 goals in all competitions, but he still plays a second fiddle role to Leicester legend, Jamie Vardy.
However, since Vardy’s knee injury a few weeks ago, Iheanacho has grown in prominence, becoming Rodgers’ first-choice striking option.
The Super Eagles striker has had decent performances recently but he has just scored once, and it came in the 1-1 tie at Old Trafford against Manchester United.
Having gone one-on-one with the goalkeeper in each of Leicester City’s last three games against Brentford, Man United, and PSV Eindhoven, he could have had more goals during that time.
The 25-year-old’s attempted dink over the goalkeepers was unsuccessful in each of those matches.
Brendan commended Iheanacho for his versatility in finishing and for having the confidence to try to get the ball past the goalkeepers. However, the former Liverpool manager advises the Nigerian striker to remember the golden rule of strikers: put the goalkeeper to work.

“You need to have variety in your finishes, of course”, Rodgers said, as per Leicester Mercury.
“I saw him this afternoon with the chiropodist, getting his feet done, and I asked her to shave a bit off his toe, just so he could bring it down a little bit.
“He’s shown that he can score goals. I love that confidence. I love that ability to be able to do that. But of course, you want them to hit the target. That’s the golden rule as a striker, to hit the target.
“He’s been in a couple of those positions, and it just went wide on the Brentford one, the one at Man United nearly went out of the stadium, and the one last night (against PSV) just went wide. He knows that himself. It’s great that they have the variation now. You have to have that variation as a striker.”
Iheanacho has 16 goals involvements (seven goals and added nine assists) in all competitions for the Foxes this season.
Super Eagles striker, Kelechi Iheanacho scored a beautiful diving header to open the scoring for Leicester City in their 1-1 English Premier League draw against Manchester United.

It is the 25-year old’s third league goal, and his fifth in all competitions so far this 2021/2022 season.
