The 3rd Edition of The EaglesTracker Awards came to an end yesterday, with Nigerian football stars claiming well deserved honours.

The 3rd Edition of The EaglesTracker Awards came to an end yesterday, with Nigerian football stars claiming well deserved honours.

Victor Osimhen was the big winner, bagging two awards on the night. The Napoli attacker received the award for the Young Player of the Season as well as the EaglesTracker Fans’ Player Of The Season.

He found the back of the net 18 times and turned provider six times in 32 games.

Super Falcons skipper, Asisat Oshoala was also rewarded for her outstanding achievements in 2021/2022. The FC Barcelona Femeni star was crowned EaglesTracker MVP Of The Season (Female) after scoring 22 goals and assisting 6 in 28 appearances. 

She also ended the season with two domestic trophies.

The last award of the night went to UD Almeria’s Umar Sadiq. The lanky forward was crowned EaglesTracker Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the Season for 2021/2022.

He was instrumental for UD Almeria in their successful league campaign, as he scored 19 goals and assisted 12 in 36 games. The most goal contributions by a player in the league. He also won the most penalties, as he helped his side to the Spanish Segunda Division title and promotion to the top division for next season.

Super Eagles and Super Falcons stars were big winners on Thursday night as EaglesTracker rewarded their outstanding performances.

In bid to recognise the role of every department, EaglesTracker initiated awards for Goalkeepers, Defenders, Midfielders and Forwards.

For the Goalkeeper of the Year, Chiamaka Nnadozie was crowned after defeating Super Eagles duo of Maduka Okoye and Adebayo Adeleye. 

There was never doubt over who would receive the award for the Defender of the Year. Just as expected, Glasgow Rangers’ youngster Calvin Bassey won the award.

The man who just got himself the nickname “IRON MAN”, Joe Aribo shrugged off competition from Alex Iwobi, Raphael Onyedika, Wilfred Ndidi and Alhassan Yusuf to be crowned Midfielder of the Year. 

And to the very last position in the beautiful game. UD Almeria’s, Umar Sadiq received the award for the Forward of the Season. 

Also on the night, EaglesTracker presented its Nigerian Team Of The Season.

EaglesTracker Awards Day 1: Taiwo Awoniyi wins Most Improved Player of the Season, Ighalo and Bassey shine

On Wednesday, the virtual ceremony kicked off with the Golden Boot award. Al Hilal’s Odion Ighalo was crowned as the highest goalscoring Nigerian footballer for the 2021-2022 season. The 33-year-old scored 28 goals in 38 games for the Saudi Arabian giants.

The EaglesTracker Awards 2022 started with glitz and glamour as several Nigerian football stars picked up various awards.

On Wednesday, the virtual ceremony kicked off with the Golden Boot award. Al Hilal’s Odion Ighalo was crowned as the highest goalscoring Nigerian footballer for the 2021-2022 season. The 33-year-old scored 28 goals in 38 games for the Saudi Arabian giants.

Super Falcons and Paris FC goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie received the Golden Glove award after guiding her club to its first UWCL appearance. The youngster had nine cleansheets in 25 appearances.

No doubt some major step-ups were made by Nigerian Footballers in the 2021-2022.

FC Union Berlin striker, Taiwo Awoniyi won the EaglesTracker Most Improved Player of the Season award.

In the 2020-2021 season, the Ilorin born had seven goal contributions (4 goals and 3 assists) in 21 appearances but fortunes changed as he scored 20 and assisted five in 43 outings.

Having had a fantastic outing in his first full season as a professional footballer, Yira Sor was crowned EaglesTracker Rookie Of The Season. 

The former Nigerian youth International scored 11 goals and assisted nine for Czech Republic champions, Slavia Prague. 

The last award for the night went to Ranger’s Calvin Bassey. He received the award for the Revelation of the Season after having a bitter-sweet campaign with the Gers.

 On Thursday, the nominees for the 2021-2022 Eagles Tracker Awards was revealed on our social media platforms. 

The EaglesTracker Awards is an exclusive annual event that honours Nigerian footballers’ outstanding achievements throughout the season under review.

The 2021-2022 edition will feature 14 categories in total, compared to the 13 awards handed out in 2020-2021. 

The Young Player of the Year award is making its debut this year and it’s a star studded one that has the likes of Rasheedat Ajibade, Chiamaka Nnadozie, Calvin Bassey and Victor Osimhen. 

FC Union Berlin Forward, Tawio Awoniyi leads the way with four nominations apiece across various categories.

Anthony Nwakaeme’s eye-catching performances in Turkey for recently-crowned Trabzonspor have earned him a nomination for the ‘Forward of the Year’ award, while young guns like Christy Ucheibe, Chiamaka Nnadozie, Rasheedat Ajibade, and Uchenna Kanu will compete with four-time African Women’s Footballer of the Year Asisat Oshoala for the ‘MVP of the Year – Female’ award.

The award ceremony is a three days event and will be kicking off on the 15th of June, 2022 and will end on the 17th of June, 2022.

EaglesTracker set to honour outstanding Nigerian footballers for the 2021-2022 season

The Eagle Tracker Season Awards is an exclusive annual event that honors Nigerian footballers’ outstanding achievements throughout the year under review.

The 2021-2022 football season has come to a close, and Nigerian footballers have made headlines all around the world.

Some made history, some lived out fairytales and others improved on their previous campaigns.

The EaglesTracker Awards is an exclusive annual event that honours Nigerian footballers’ outstanding achievements throughout the season under review.

Since its establishment in 2020, the MVP award has been presented to notable footballers such as Simy Nwankwo, Paul Onuachu, and Asisat Oshoala.

In addition to the Eagles Tracker Men’s MVP of the Year and Women’s MVP of the Year categories, we honour footballers with different categories of award.

This year’s edition offers thirteen categories namely; 

1. Goalkeeper of the Season – A fan-voted award given to the best goalkeeper in the 2021-2022 season

2. Defender of the Season – A fan-voted award given to the best defender in the 2021-2022/2021 season

3. Midfielder of the Season – A fan-voted award given to the best midfielder in the 2021-2022/2021 season

4. Forward of the Season – A fan-voted award given to the best forward in the 2020/2021-2022 season

5. Fans Player of the Season – A fan-voted award given to the fans’ best player in the 2020/2021-2022 season.

7. Women’s MVP – Awarded to the footballer (female) who had the best individual season for their club in 2021-2022/2021

8. Revelation of the Season – Awarded to the footballer (male or female) who had the best breakout season in 2021-2022/2021

9. Rookie of the Season – Awarded to the footballer (male or female) aged U21 who had the best first full season in the first team of their club, in 2021-2022/2021

10. Most Improved Player of the Season – Awarded to the footballer (male or female) who made the most improvements from their previous season in 2021-2022
