Austin Eguavoen reveals the reason behind Cyriel Dessers’ absence from the national team

The continued omission from national team engagements has come as a shock to Super Eagles fans, who respect him highly and believe he should be considered for a spot in Nigeria’s attack.

Dessers is yet to be invited to the team by Eguavoen, who justified his choice on Elegbete TV. He stated that he has yet to witness the former Heracles attacker in action and that he would like to get a better look at him.

“You are talking about Cyriel Dessers, where is he playing?” Eguavoen asked rhetorically.

“So am I going to take the train from here to Holland? The answer is no. So the time has to be right.”

“When I say I haven’t watched the player, I’m talking about watching them live.”

Dessers has 14 goal contributions (12 goals and 2 assists) in 28 outings for Feyenoord so far this season.

22 of his 28 appearances for the Rotterdam based side have come as a substitute.
