  • Rasheedat Ajibade has been rewarded for her outstanding performances for Atletico de Madrid Femenino during the 2023/24 season.

The Super Falcons forward has been named the winner of the club's Player of the Season award.

This award comes a few days after Ajibade netted the only goal in a 1-0 win over Villarreal in the last match of the campaign that secured a Champions League spot for Atletico de Madrid Femenino.

The former Spanish champions had not qualified for the continent's premier club competition since 2021. Interestingly, bitter rivals FC Barcelona Femeni have won three of the last four Champions League titles, including this year's final.

Ajibade's brilliant season is reflected in her numbers as she contributed 16 goals (ten goals and six assists) in 35 league games for Atletico de Madrid - more than any other player at the club including top scorer and Spanish striker Sheila Guijarro (13 goals, two assists)

By numbers, it is Ajibade's most productive season since she left the shores of Nigeria to join Norwegian club Avaldsnes Idrettslag in 2018.

The signs were clear that Ajibade was the favourite to be named Atletico de Madrid's Best Player of the Year after she picked up four consecutive Player of the Month awards between February and May.

The 24-year-old midfielder won the Copa de la Reina with Atletico de Madrid last year and has a contract with the club until the summer of 2025.
