There were 5 awards handed out over three days, beginning with the Team of the Season announcement on Friday with the show coming to a close on Sunday, following the announcement of FC Crotone’s Simy Nwankwo as the Nigerian Player of the Season for 2019/2020.
Below is the list of all awards and winners:

Awarded to the Best Player aged 21 years or younger, playing in their first full season as a member of the first team squad.

Daniel Akpeyi had a bit of a mixed season for Kaizer Chiefs, however, he just beats Sebastian Osigwe to a spot in our Team of the Season.

Left Back: Ola Aina (Torino)

Ola Aina had a good season in the Series A, with Torino. He narrowly beat SC Paderborn’s Jamilu Collins to a spot in our Team of the Season.

Centre-Back: William Troost Ekong (Udinese)

The Super Eagles defender had a fine season with Udinese in the Italian Serie A, producing consistent performances on their way to a 13th place finish.

Centre Back: Semi Ajayi (West Bromwich Albion)

Semi Ajayi was one of the stand-out performers for West Brom in a fantastic EFL Championship campaign that saw them regain promotion to the English Premier League.

A more unknown name in defence, Godswill Ekpolo was consistently impressive for BK Hacken in the Swedish Allsvenskan.

A rock as always in the heart of midfield, Wilfred Ndidi was amazing for Leicester City in their impressive 2019/2020 campaign which saw them narrowly miss out on the Champions League.

Alhassan Yusuf was an impact player for his side, IFK Goteborg during the course of the season where he picked up the league’s ‘Newcomer of the Year’ award.

Forward: Simy Nwankwo (FC Crotone)

Simeon ‘Simy’ Nwankwo was fantastic all season. he picked up the golden boot award in the Italian Series B with 20 goals scored while helping Crotone secure promotion to the Serie A.

Forward: Asisat Oshoala (FC Barcelona Femeni)

‘Superzee’ continued in her usual standard this season. She was impressive for Barcelona as they secured a league and cup double before falling to a Champions League semifinal defeat.

Victor Osimhen (LOSC Lille)

Victor Osimhen without a doubt makes our Team of the Season as striker. The 21-year old had a breakout season with LOSC Lille in the French Ligue 1, which recently earned him a Nigerian record move to SSC Napoli.

EaglesTracker Awards (1st Edition) – 2019/2020 Season

It is now time for us to celebrate the Most Outstanding Nigerian Footballers from around the world during this hopefully ‘Once in a Lifetime’ 2019/2020 season.

The EaglesTracker Awards is an annual event which will take place for the first time on Friday at 7:30pm via our social media platforms. The event will celebrate the best performers, selected from over 250 Nigerian players that we tracked during the 2019/2020 season.

The 2019/2020 football season has undoubtedly been one to remember, for many reasons, including some, unrelated to football. Football players from around the world have had to overcome the issues of the pandemic just like the rest of us, yet they did not fail to keep us engaged and entertained.
It is time for us to celebrate the Most Outstanding Nigerian Footballers from around the world during this hopefully ‘Once in a Lifetime’ 2019/2020 season.

Patricia George joins SC Sand: Time to Shine ?

Patricia George finally completed a move to SC Sand in July 2020. She spoke exclusively with EaglesTracker ahead of the upcoming season.

Raised in an athletic family, 23-year old American-born forward, Patricia George always dreamt of playing football professionally. She signed her first professional contract in January 2020, with BV Cloppenburg, and scored twice on her debut. It would seem like the perfect start to life as a pro, until the coronavirus pandemic forced the cancellation of the season with Patricia having only made two appearances and out of contract. Back to square one.

Patricia finally completed a move to SC Sand in July 2020, and has now been unveiled as a member of the German Bundesliga 1 club. She spoke exclusively with EaglesTracker ahead of the upcoming season.

ALHASSAN YUSUF WINS SWEDEN ALLSVENSKAN YOUNG PLAYER OF THE YEAR

IFK Goteborg midfielder, Alhassan Yusuf has been named as the Swedish Allsvenskan’s ‘Young Player of the Year’ for the 2019 season.

19-year old IFK Goteborg midfielder, Alhassan Yusuf has been named as the Swedish Allsvenskan’s ‘Young Player of the Year’ for the 2018/2019 season.

Alhassan Yusuf may not be a household name just yet, but this 19-year old midfielder is definitely one to watch out for.

He made 26 appearances in holding midfield for Goteborg, making consistently impressive performances and controlling the park very comfortably.

He opened his goal account on the final day with 2 goals in their 7-1 spanking of Ostersunds. Watch here.
