Nigerian Player of the Month – October 2021

In a month filled with top top performances from Nigerian footballers abroad, Stephen Odey stole the show to become EaglesTracker’s Nigerian Player of The Month.

Odey is known for his speed, agility and quick reactions, notably some of his greatest attributes, and these are being felt by his current team side FC Randers and indeed the Danish Super Liga.

The former FC Zurich star has been an instant hit to his loan side. Odey has scored 11 goals in 13 appearances for his team across all competitions so far this season. He also bagged four league goals in October alone, including a beautiful match winner against Odense.

It comes as no surprise that the 23-year-old was voted the best player in the Danish Super Liga for the month of October.

The Forward bags our Nigerian Player of the Month award for his heroics, especially in the UEFA Conference League where he scored a brace in 2-2 draw against Jablonec FK.

Odey’s recent run of goal scoring form has also seen him receive a massive influx of support. Paul Onuachu and Asisat Oshoala both sent their congratulations.

The 24-year old striker has made a bright start to the 2021/2022 season with FC Union Berlin, putting in impressive performance after impressive performance.

Kelechi Iheanacho wins Player of the Month Award

There comes a time in every striker’s career when every touch of the ball seemingly ends up in the goal, and Kelechi Iheanacho is the latest to experience a purple patch.

Having found playing time difficult to earn in the earlier parts of the season, the absence of James Madisson and Harvey Barnes for Leicester City due to injury opened up a door of opportunities for 24-year old Kelechi Iheanacho. He was brought into the lineup by Brendan Rodgers, featuring in a supporting striker role, playing alongside Jamie Vardy in Leicester City’s 4-4-2 setup.

Talk about grabbing an opportunity with both hands. Iheanacho’s impressive performances earned him the EaglesTracker Nigerian Player of the Month award for March.

Iheanacho played 4 times for Leicester City in March scoring in every match. He netted a hat trick in their Premier League victory over Sheffield United, and also bagged a brace as they defeated Manchester United in the FA Cup quarterfinals. Iheanacho went on to finish the month with 7 goals and 1 assist.

He also played in both of Nigeria’s AFCON qualification matches, assisting Victor Osimhen’s opening goal in the 3-0 victory against Lesotho.

Leicester City take on Manchester City next, as they continue their push for a top-four Premier League finish.

Sadiq Umar named Nigerian Player of the Month

24-year old Sadiq Umar has been one of the revelations of the season so far. He has been excellent since joining UD Almeria from FK Partizan in the summer of 2020. His exceptional performances have earned him the Nigerian Player of the Month award for January 2021. Umar narrowly beat Paul Onuachu to the prestigious award.

Sadiq Umar featured five times for UD Almeria in January, scoring seven times. His goalscoring outburst included a hat trick and a brace, while also providing an assist in the process. Umar led his team to three wins and two draws, as they continued their push for promotion to the Spanish first division.

September 2020 Nigerian Player of the Month

Football is back in full flow, and Nigerian footballers around the world are once again battling to make an impact for their respective club sides.

With over 100 Nigerian footballers in action during the month of September, Paul Onuachu’s heroics for Genk have earned him the EaglesTracker ‘Nigerian Player of the Month Award.

Onuachu scored 5 goals in 3 Belgian Jupiler Pro league appearances as Genk continued to struggle at the start of the 2020/2021 campaign. KRC Genk currently sit 11th in the league with 9 points from 7 games.

August 2020 Nigerian Player of the Month

August 2020 saw football return to a relative normal. Fans were allowed back into stadiums (at reduced capacity) and some European Leagues kicked off their 2020/2021 campaigns.

There were over 50 Nigerian players in action, and Mjallby AIF’s Moses Ogbu stood out from the lot. The 29-year old former Grimsby Town striker is our ‘August 2020 Nigerian Player of the Month’. He scored 6 goals and provided 1 assists in 7 matches for Mjallby AIF during an impressive run, which score him score in four consecutive games.
