FC Barcelona Femini and Super Falcons' star, Asisat Oshoala has been named the CAF (Confederation of African Football) African Player of the Year (Women) for 2022.

Oshoala was outstanding for Barcelona last season, aiding her team a historic Spanish Primera Iberdrola and Copa de la Reina double. She was also present as they fell to Lyon in the Women's Champions League final.

The 27-year-old was the overwhelming favourite ahead of Grace Chanda (Zambia) and Ajara Nchout Njoya (Cameroon).

Oshoala's status as the greatest female player on the continent was cemented at the CAF Awards ceremony in Rabat, Morocco, when she defeated her rivals from Zambia and Cameroon to win the prized trophy for a record fifth time.

Oshoala has now surpassed the previous record she jointly held with fellow Super Falcons Legend, Pepertua Nkwocha.

She becomes the first female footballer to win five CAF Player of the Year awards.
