Wilfred Ndidi ruled out for the remainder of the season
Leicester City head coach, Brendan Rodgers had confirmed that Wilfred Ndidi will miss the remainder of the 2021/2022 football season.
The 25-year old Super Eagles midfielder had to undergo surgery after suffering a reported medial ligament tear in his knee.
Ndidi attempted to tackle Gaetan Laborde for the ball, but was injured in the process, during Leicester’s 2-1 defeat by Rennes in the Europa Conference League on March 17.
The duration of Ndidi’s injury was not known at the time, but Rodgers initial fears have now become a reality.
“Wilfred Ndidi will be out for the season, it’s a shame for us but he’ll get ready for next season. It’s unfortunate. He’s been a brilliant player for me in my time here. He picked up a nasty injury that has had to have surgery on and he’ll recover now until June.”, Rodgers said speaking ahead of Leicester’s visit to Manchester United this weekend.
Ndidi was called up for Nigeria’s critical 2022 Fifa World Cup Qualifying playoffs matches against Ghana, but was later replaced by FC Lorient’s Innocent Bonke. The Super Eagles did not qualify.
He appeared in every game for the Super Eagles at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, where they were eliminated in the Round of 16 by Tunisia.
