The sheer quality of Nigeria’s leading scorer has perplexed the former sports manager.
Enrico Fedele, an Italian pundit, believes Napoli striker Victor Osimhen possesses nearly all of the qualities required to be considered among the world’s best finishers.
Despite a strong start to the season, Osimhen has struggled to reach his full potential due to a rare facial injury and coronavirus concerns.
The 23-year-old is Napoli’s top scorer in both the Italian Serie A and the Europa League, with seven and four goals, respectively.
Fedele is hesitant of praising Osimhen to the skies before he reaches his full potential, as his technique and coordination remain a source of concern.
However, the former sports manager is confident that the Nigerian forward’s athleticism would continue to cause defenders problems.
“We are talking about an athlete lent to football,” Fedele said of Osimhen, as per Area Napoli.
“The Napoli striker has great physical qualities, but with a technique to be completely refined. I am convinced that if he improves, he can become one of the best strikers in the world.
“I agree that he has qualities, but we cannot exalt him too much at the moment.”
At the weekend, Osimhen was the hero for the Neapolitans, coming off the bench to equalize in a 1-1 tie with Cagliari.
When Barcelona visits the Stadio Diego Maradona on Thursday for the second leg of their Europa League tie, the former Lille striker will be hoping to add to his outstanding goal record. At Camp Nou, the first leg ended in a 1-1 tie.
