“It was a very, very long time, but I fought my way back”. – Anthony Ujah delighted to resume football after 20 months injury lay-off
After making his first appearance in 20 months for Union Berlin on Sunday, Nigerian attacker Anthony Ujah expressed his joy at being able to play football again.

Union Berlin lost 3-0 at home to title-chasing Borussia Dortmund, with Ujah playing the final 18 minutes. It was the Nigerian forward’s first outing in the Bundesliga since June 2020 against Fortuna Dusseldorf.
He scored a goal and provided an assist before suffering a knee injury that necessitated two procedures.
Despite the defeat in front of their adoring fans, Ujah was glad to have won the year-and-a-half-long war. āIām very happy to be back on the pitch. It was a very, very long time, but I fought my way back,ā Ujah said, as per Bz-Berlin.
For the time being, Ujah may have limited playing time, with Taiwo Awoniyi being Union Berlin’s main striker. The trio of Sheraldo Becker, Kevin Behrens, and Andreas Voglsammer are also ahead of him in the pecking order.
However, the former Mainz striker is a nine-year veteran of Germany’s top flight, and vows to be ready when the time comes.
