There comes a time in every striker’s career when every touch of the ball seemingly ends up in the goal, and Kelechi Iheanacho is the latest to experience a purple patch.
Having found playing time difficult to earn in the earlier parts of the season, the absence of James Madisson and Harvey Barnes for Leicester City due to injury opened up a door of opportunities for 24-year old Kelechi Iheanacho. He was brought into the lineup by Brendan Rodgers, featuring in a supporting striker role, playing alongside Jamie Vardy in Leicester City’s 4-4-2 setup.
Talk about grabbing an opportunity with both hands. Iheanacho’s impressive performances earned him the EaglesTracker Nigerian Player of the Month award for March.
Iheanacho played 4 times for Leicester City in March scoring in every match. He netted a hat trick in their Premier League victory over Sheffield United, and also bagged a brace as they defeated Manchester United in the FA Cup quarterfinals. Iheanacho went on to finish the month with 7 goals and 1 assist.
He also played in both of Nigeria’s AFCON qualification matches, assisting Victor Osimhen’s opening goal in the 3-0 victory against Lesotho.
Leicester City take on Manchester City next, as they continue their push for a top-four Premier League finish.
