Toronto FC Rookie, Ifunanyachi Achara suffers torn left ACL

22-year old Toronto FC rookie, Ifunanyachi Achara has unfortunately been dealt a major blow only a few days before the start of the MLS is Back tournament. He will undergo surgery next week.

The Enugu-born striker earned himself a professional contract with the Canadian side in February 2020, after being selected 25th overall in the MLS SuperDraft and impressing in preseason.

Ifunanyachi had already started winning over fans in Toronto after scoring the winning goal in his professional debut against New York City FC in March, before the coronavirus pandemic.

The young forward was plagued with injuries throughout his college career with Georgetown University, where he won the NCAA title in 2019 and will be hoping that he can one day put the issues behind him and focus on doing what he does best, score goals.

Toronto FC opens the MLS is Back Tournament on July 10 against D.C. United before facing Orji Okwonkwo’s Montreal Impact on July 15.
