CAF have officially announced the postponement of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled to take place in January 2021. The decision was made by the governing body of African football due to the global coronavirus pandemic. The tournament is now scheduled to take place in January 2022, with Cameroon still the host nation.

Having played only two rounds of qualifying fixtures, CAF deemed it impossible to complete the qualifying rounds in time for a January 2021 start and thus the decision was reached on Tuesday via a virtual conference.

The 2020 Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) has been cancelled in favour of the inaugural Africa Women’s Champions League, which is set to begin in 2021.

CHAN (Championship of African Nations) which was scheduled to hold in April 2020, has also been postponed to January 2021. CHAN is a tournament that features only locally-based players.
