German tactician, Rohr, to remain as the Super Eagles Head Coach.
Contract was due to expire at the end of June, 2020.
Negotiations stalled for months due to disagreements over the renewal terms.
NFF President, Amaju Pinnick has announced that 66-year old, Gernot Rohr will continue in his position as the Head Coach of the Super Eagles.
The announcement comes with a sigh of relief for many Nigerians and Nigerian fans who had become increasingly frustrated by the apparent lack of commitment shown by the NFF towards agreeing terms with Gernot Rohr.
Pinnick revealed that the two parties had come to an agreement in a thread via his verified Twitter account saying:
“I’m happy to announce that the @thenff and Coach Gernot Rohr have concluded all contractual discussions and he will stay on as Coach of the Super Eagles. We have always had confidence in his abilities and we are confident that the national team can only go higher from here.
We can now focus on qualifying for the World Cup and winning the Nations Cup. In truth, these are sacrosanct and Coach Rohr is aware of these conditions. Like the Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports Development has rightly noted; we are uncompromising in these goals.”
The German’s new contract will run until December 2022, but the exact agreed terms have not been made public at this time.
Gernot Rohr has been in charge of the Nigerian national team since 2016 and has led the side to a group stage exit at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Rusia, before a bronze medal finish at the 2019 CAF Africa Cup of Nations.
What do you think of the decision to keep Gernot Rohr as Super Eagles boss ?
