19-year old Nigerian midfielder, Christy Ucheibe has completed a move from Assi IF in Sweden to Portuguese side, SL Benfica on a three-and-a-half year contract.

The midfielder who has represented Nigeria at both the 2014 FIFA Women’s U17 World Cup and the 2018 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup has expressed her delight in signing for the side who currently sit top of the Campeonato Nacional Feminino with 42 points after 14 games (14 wins).

In an interview with, she said:

“I know I’m coming to a very competitive team. It is this demand and the greatness of the club of legend, Eusebio that has attracted me.

I want to help the team win trophies domestically, and one day, shine in the UEFA Champions League….I already love and admire the passion of the Benfica fans.”

She will wear the no. 16 jersey.
