OLYMPIC EAGLES BEGIN AFCON DEFENCE WITH A NARROW DEFEAT

It was a “so-so” start to the defence of their AFCON crown for the Nigeria U23 side. The tournament which also serves an a qualifier for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics is currently being held in Egypt.

The first half ended goalless, with Adamu making a fine stop in the 16th minute.

The second half was more of the same, with both teams not creating any clear cut chances.

Orji Okwonkwo hit the crossbar with a header resulting from a corner kick and that proved to be the best chance of the game.

Olisa Ndah was shown a second yellow card after 70 mins for a foul, giving away a penalty which was duly converted to hand the Olympic Eagles a matchday 1 defeat.
