A poor defensive display by the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria, allowed Ajax forward, Sontje Hansen to net a hat-trick & propel the Netherlands past Nigeria 3-1 and into the quarter-finals at the FIFA U-17 World Cup Brazil 2019.
The Golden Eaglets again went behind to an early goal, with Netherlands taking the lead after only 4 minutes of play. Olakunle Olusegun able to draw level on after 12 mins. He turned Dutch defender Devyne Rensch with a slick cutback, then fired a low, burning shot from the corner of the penalty area that seared past goalkeeper Calvin Raatsie. ,
But the parity was short lived as Hansen scored 2 minutes later to restore the one-goal advantage for the Dutch.
Hansen completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot in the 80th minute, after Ferdinand had conceded a penalty for handball.
It was an uninspiring performance by the Golden Eaglets, who will now have to wait at least another two years before getting another shot at their sixth U-17 crown.
